LWPI was originally incorporated and received tax-exempt status in 2007. Since then, the organization has served as a platform for nonprofit refugee and asylum-seeking leaders to engage, design, and develop their capacity to coordinate and collaborate with a wide range of community and institutional partners to achieve socio-emotional and economic well-being. The organization currently has Board members from Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Burundi and Rwanda. We have always primarily served the refugee and asylum-seeking populations in the major cities and towns of southern, central, and Western Maine. Our goal is to integrate civic, social, and business life.
